Move Through Your Fear for More Money

As a solo-entrepreneur you’ve chosen to really stand on your own two feet. You are a renegade. This is very different from working for someone else. The objective isn’t about ignoring or hiding from these feelings; it’s simply about managing them when they appear. To pretend they don’t exist or get down on yourself when they show up just keeps you stuck in the low-level energy of these emotions and further away from your success.

One of the best ways you can manage your energy around fear is to have a clear, powerful vision of what you want. Great success stories start with a compelling vision that pulls you forward, even on those days when you are feeling very doubtful about your business.

So then, you have to ask yourself—what’s my vision?

Too many business owners float along, believing they do have a vision, when in reality, they don’t. I often hear things like: “I want to transform people’s lives.” This is not a vision. If you REALLY do want to transform people’s lives, then your vision must be clear, focused, and electrifying! It’s gotta get your heart pumpin’ and specifically zero in on how you will serve the people you are meant to connect with.

Another example I often hear sounds like this, “I want to get more clients.” Again, this is nothing more than an unclearly spoken minor goal. This lack of clarity is a true “Come on in!” for all those fears and doubts. The vaguer you are, the more room for the mind to say, “You can’t do that. How are you ever going to make that happen? I can’t get my arms around that. We’re outta here.”

Here are 7 steps to focus your vision and move it from your head into your heart:

Clear the Decks Step #1: Look At How Fear Has Affected Your Business Actions

I don’t recommend dwelling here, but we do need to have an understanding of where we’ve been to get clear about where we want to go. So take some quiet time to connect with yourself and go inside.

List ways fear and/or doubt led you to under-value, sell-out, or give away your services in the past. Just let the list flow and resist the temptation to get down on you. You are going through this so you can do it all differently the next time around.

Clear the Decks Step #2: Look at How Fear Has Affected Your Business Speak

One of the biggest blocks that I see facing entrepreneurs is a resistance to talking about what you do. There is a fear of being questioned, judged, called out as a fraud, or jumping ahead and assuming the person you’re speaking to doubts what it is you have to say. The thing is, if you don’t tell people what you do, then no one will know about it. I know that sounds silly and obvious, but it’s true, right? It’s like throwing away a gift before you’ve unwrapped it. You don’t even know what it is, but you’ve determined it’s no good.

It is a MUST to shift the vision around how you speak about what you do. So let’s start by listing times when fear and/or doubt affected the way you spoke about your services in the past.

Clear the Decks Step #3: Look At How Fear Has Affected Your Productivity

Entrepreneurs can be experts at appearing busy. They check email, move papers around on their desk, run errands, research websites, and have coffee meetings. At the end of the day, not one action has been in support of the growth of their businesses. This is about hiding. You tell yourself that you’re busy, you tell others you’re busy, but when it comes down to it, we know we’re avoiding what really needs to be done. And that’s about putting ourselves out there.

Let’s be honest. List ways fear thwarted your productivity in the past. It’s the best way to move through it all. The relief and success on the other side is so worth it.

Clear the Decks Step #4: Put the Fear Pieces Together

Looking back at the 3 lists you created, what can you identify as your main fear? What are you afraid of?

There is usually one main thread that connects it all. One big “yikes” that we’re convinced if THAT happens it will be the end of us.

What is that for you?

Clear the Decks Step #5: Connect the Doubt Dots

Looking back at the 3 lists you created, what are you doubtful about? This is the sticky part. This is the part where most folks want to jump ship and blame it all on outside stuff (my work area is a mess, my family doesn’t support me, it rained today), so they get stuck, totally stalled in their tracks.

It’s tempting, I admit, to want to abort. My coaching request here is…don’t. Every time you doubt yourself, go back to your vision and ask, if not me, then who?

Clear the Decks Step #6: Make Peace

What are some ways you can begin to “make peace” with your doubts and fears?

First, start by looking at why these little buggers are showing up. Are they trying to protect you? Is it natural to want to stay with what you know? Did this path work for you at some point in the past?

Thank them for the messages of guidance they are giving you. Every time you feel a ‘pang’ of fear or doubt, it’s a message something is off track from your vision. So you gently guide yourself back. Give yourself some powerful self-talk (I CAN do this!) and begin releasing the fear as you put one foot (or one toe if you need to start there) in front of the other.

Clear the Decks Step #7: Make a Choice

What do you want more: fear or success? If you chose success, clearly state WHAT you are inspired to create. So instead of the loose “I want to make a difference” story, envision something state-of-the-art, specific, juicy, dripping with the details of what excites you and attach a time frame to it. Go for it!

How does that feel? Now, what are you willing to do to create that?

EnergyRICH Call-To-Action:

Find someone you can speak to about these entrepreneurial doubts and fears. Be very conscious about who you choose. Often individuals who don’t have their own businesses cannot completely relate, even if they are one of our closest companions. Ask for support. Ask for accountability.

Put this into consistent practice.

Continue to develop techniques that are easily available to you, which you can reach out and grab onto during times of fear and doubt, which can help to restore your energy and confidence.

Accept this road will become smoother, but it will be constant. As an EnergyRICH Entrepreneur, you are on a constant road of growth and expansion. Better to embrace all that comes with that; otherwise, you’ll stay right where you are in all areas.

Oh, and prospects smell fear and doubt from a mile away. You want to step up to be present to those you serve and for yourself.

The result is extremely powerful.

188 Step Hero’s Journey (Monomyth) - Screenwriting Secrets, Plotting

FORWARD

The 188 stage Hero’s Journey (Monomyth) is the template upon which the vast majority of successful stories and Hollywood blockbusters are based upon. In fact, ALL of the hundreds of Hollywood movies we have deconstructed (see URL below) are based on this 188+ stage template.

Understanding this template is a priority for story or screenwriters. This is the template you must master if you are to succeed in the craft.

[The terminology is most often metaphoric and applies to all successful stories and screenplays, from The Godfather (1972) to Brokeback Mountain (2006) to Annie Hall (1977) to Lord of the Rings (2003) to Drugstore Cowboy (1989) to Thelma and Louise (1991) to Apocaplyse Now (1979)].

THERE IS ONLY ONE STORY

THE 188 STAGE HERO’S JOURNEY:

a) Attempts to tap into unconscious expectations the audience has regarding what a story is and how it should be told.

b) Gives the writer more structural elements than simply three or four acts, plot points, mid point and so on.

c) Gives you a tangible process for building and releasing dissonance (establishing and achieving catharses, of which there are usually four).

d) Tells you what to write. For example, at a certain stage of the story, the focus should be on the Call to Adventure and the micro elements within.

*****Master of the Two Worlds and Two Selves*****

The Hero, having conquered all challenges and vanquished all antagonisms is now Master of both Old and New Worlds and the Old and New Self, which is universally recognised. In The Matrix (1999), Neo plays with the Matrix. He can slip between both worlds.

*****Final Conflict - Reward or Celebration*****

Post the birth of the New Self, a reward is received. Remaining Challenges are conquered. In Bonnie and Clyde (1967), Bonnie and Clyde finally have sex. Bonnie has an orgasm.

*****Final Catharses*****

Many stories end with multiple catharses. Brokeback Mountain (2005) is no different.

a) Catharsis 1: Ennis’ postcard is returned marked deceased.

b) Catharsis 2: Ennis calls Lureen, who tells him about Jake’s death.

c) Catharsis 3: Ennis visits Jake’s folks. Finds his shirt and takes it back.

*****A Period of Obscurity*****

When the Hero is in his (or her) Ordinary World, he (or she) undergoes a Period of Obscurity. In Bonnie and Clyde (1967), Bonnie bored and naked in bed. In The King of Comedy (1983), Pupkin can’t get into the show.

Headaches - Prevention Worth Considering

Headaches can be very distressing. They are a common symptom and many headaches are self-limiting anddo not represent anything too serious.

Headache appears to be the result of pain caused by problems and interference between the brain, blood vessels, and the nerves which surround them. It is not “pain in the brain” - contrary to popular belief - but such pain comes from the nerves which surround the skull, vessels, and muscles around the head. Headaches are poorly understood but the pain that the nerves send is what we term “headache.”

A fact about headaches

A cluster headache is rare only affecting 0.1% of the population

Some headache information

Overuse of most acute medications can lead to increased incidence of headache also known as “rebound headache.” Barbiturate hypnotics and opiates are effective in treating headache pain, but overuse of these agents may cause dependency.

Preventive medications are taken on a daily basis - they are taken BEFORE the headache comes. They are designed to avoid the headache developing in the first place. The kinds of medications used for headache prevention include:

” Beta-blockers
” Anticonvulsants
” Antidepressants
” Calcium antagonists
” Serotonergic agents
” Others under the direction of a physician

Did you know …?

Glaring or flickering lights - changes in the weather and certain foods can set off migraine

Although headaches are not serious in the vast majority of cases, you should be aware of the symptoms and their associations and seek advice and help from your doctor if you are unsure about the nature of your pain or if anything unusual or worrying develops.

If you have regular or severe headaches it is important to see your doctor. He or she will be able to screen for other medical conditions. Only then will they be able to advise on therapy. This can include acute or preventative treatments. Rescue medications are used as a last resort when other things have failed.

Headaches Can be Very Distressing

Headaches can be very distressing. They are a common symptom and many headaches are self-limiting anddo not represent anything too serious.

Many headaches have easily identifiable symptoms. These often fall into a pattern which can aid or point to the diagnosis. If you see a doctor her or she will take a full history including details of past problems, injuries, eye problems, sinus problems, dental difficulties, problems with the jaw, and the use of treatments. There may be a whole host of other things that your doctor will want to discuss with you.

A fact about headaches

Chronic daily headaches can occur every day or almost every day

Some headache information

Migraines can be activated by performing a daily task like walking up a set of stairs. Migraines are typically accompanied by symptoms such as facial pallor, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, cold hands or feet and sensitivity to light and sound. A migraine attack typically lasts between 4 and 72 hours, with the afflicted person preferring to rest in a quiet, dark room.

Did you know …?

Headache medications come in different forms and can be taken orally (by mouth)- intranasally (via the nose) - sublingually (under the tongue or sometimes ON the tongue) - rectally (anally in suppository form) - subcutaneously (under the skin) - intramuscularly (in the muscle) and intravenously (injected into the vein)

Although headaches are not serious in the vast majority of cases, you should be aware of the symptoms and their associations and seek advice and help from your doctor if you are unsure about the nature of your pain or if anything unusual or worrying develops.

The vast majority of all headaches are classified as tension headaches. People who suffer infrequently from this type of headache can sometimes benefit from a hot shower or moist heat on the back of the neck. Gentle exercises and other physical therapy, including massage, may be helpful.

*****Ultimate Boon*****

The Ultimate Boon is not necessarily for the Hero only. In Straw Dogs (1971), Janice kisses Henry.

*****No Going Back*****

The beginning of the Road of Trials often sees the Hero’s path backwards closed off. In Brokeback Mountain (2005), Jack Twist wants to get a job on Brokeback again, but Joe doesn’t let him.

*****Inner Challenge / Inner Cave*****

It is in the Inner Cave of the First Threshold that the Inner Challenges is most often made explicit. In Bonnie and Clyde (1967), Clyde pretends to snore in bed; Bonnie wants sex.

*****Unbearable Antagonism*****

Beyond the Engagement with the Antagonism, the Hero requires an Unbearable Antagonism to push out the Inner Resolve. In Brokeback Mountain (2005), Ennis won’t be able to come out until November.

*****The One*****

As noted before, the Seizing of the Sword (a tangible) is a metaphor for the intangible (Expansion of Consciousness). It is now, once the Hero has gained his (or her) Expansion of Consciousness, that others believe that he (or she) may truly be The One, The Saviour, The Messiah, the one capable of defeating the previously unbeatable Antagonism. In Dances with Wolves (1990), Two Socks takes the meat from John’s hand. In The Matrix (1999), Trinity et al begin to believe Neo is the one.

*****Rebirth*****

The Hero’s Rebirth is often demonstarted post the Near Death Experience. In Straw Dogs (1971), Amy walks to David and, calmly for the first time, tells him they’re “….due at the church hall at 8…”

Top 7 Reasons Why A Potential Employer Won’t Read Your Resume, And What To Do About It

When you write your resume (with or without advice and professional help), who is your target audience? Who are you trying to satisfy?

First of all, you’re not writing your resume to satisfy yourself. For that matter, you’re not writing it to satisfy any “expert” – the author of the resume book you just read, or the recruiter you’re working with, or your career guidance counselor, or your cousin Fred who is a human resources manager, or even a professional resume writer.

You are writing for a particular kind of reader: a potential employer. And if you’re like most of us, you make some very, very optimistic assumptions about that reader. You are certain that your reader is eager to find the best person for the job. Your reader, you are sure, is going to read the important things in your resume, and that his or her eye will be drawn to all of those clever formatting tricks you’ve used (columns, underlining, different fonts, boldfacing, italics, strong verbs, skills, numbers, results, etc.).

But you’d better take off the rose-colored glasses. Your resume has a better than 98% chance of ending up in the garbage can (real or virtual).

Here are 7 characteristics of the psychology of the typical resume reader:

1. Resume readers are some of the smartest and most skeptical readers in the world. They know that at least half of what they read consists of lies, exaggerations, half-truths, and semantic and formatting “tricks.” They don’t accept anything at face value. Remember, the typical resume reader sees literally thousands; they know every trick in the book by now.

2. Most readers are in a bad mood, not a happy mood of eager expectancy. They’ve got 300 resumes to read, and nobody is giving them an extra penny to carefully peruse each one. They are rushed for time, annoyed at having to read yet another resume, and hostile rather than sympathetic. Reading yet another resume is a burden that is keeping them from their attention to what they consider much, much more important matters.

3. Therefore, the typical resume reader is looking for a quick and convincing reason to throw out yours. Some will even discard it if they don’t like the envelope or the way the email looks. Some will read only the resume and not the cover letter, or vice-versa. And they are unwilling to open up a zip file. You know how annoying it is to get an email that requires you to open up several files? For the resume reader, it is triply annoying.

4. They are unimpressed by the latest resume “fad.” For a long time, it was (and to a great extent still is) ‘verbs.’ Since a verb is an action word, we think, the reader will be impressed by lots of great verbs. They’re not. The latest craze is numbers. You’ve got to have lots of quantitative data in your resume, or no one will take you seriously. I see resumes now that are nothing but a bewildering array of numbers, and I do not believe it is any more impressive to the typical resume reader than is a bewildering array of verbs.

5. None will read in detail – that we all know. All will skim-read for about 20 seconds or less. They are looking for certain information FIRST, to see if the resume is worth reading in more detail. Usually they look for job titles and academic degrees first. Some look first for gaps in employment, some for certain skills, some for length of employment. Each reader has his or her own top priority to scan for first. And even if they read it in detail, they’ll give it to 5 other people who will skim it.

6. Most readers know that their company is in no hurry to hire. Even if they are interested in you, they will take their time responding. They are not interested in calling you back right away, even if they like your resume.

7. They are not interested in your personal objectives for your life and your career. They are only interested in how you can help their company solve its problems and achieve its goals—that’s why they hire. But they are totally unaware of your unique strengths and value that you can potentially bring to the organization. That’s because in most resumes, the person’s unique strengths and potential value are buried somewhere in the middle of the resume and not written for a skimmer/reader.

So, when you write your resume (or have anyone else help you write it), keep the above characteristics in mind. You have got to give your reader 1) what they are looking for FIRST, and 2) what you want them to find FIRST. That means that you cannot emphasize everything equally in your resume. You’ve got to write it so that they see their priorities and yours instantly. Make sure to keep that in mind, and you’ll have a much better chance of having your resume taken seriously.

Build your Own Lightsaber - How to Build a Lightsaber

The Star wars series has an incredible following, of which I am one. The characters, space ships and technology are mind blowing at times. And for most of us we want a piece of that. We want to know what it would feel like to be a Jedi. One important thing that every Jedi possesses is a lightsaber. If you’ve ever dreamed of building your own lightsaber the good news is it is entirely possible.

There are several really good web sites on the internet that include designs, pictures and schematics of lightsabers that people have built on their own. In fact they are so popular that at times they are down due to heavy amounts of traffic. I’ll give you a list of these sites at the bottom of this article.

When you find a design you like you’ll find that it includes a list of parts that you can pick up at your local Home Depot or Lowes. The one problem you might run into is that those parts are no longer in stock or have to be ordered. So at times you may have to improvise on your design. Sometimes it will end up looking better and original and unique.

One word of caution is that running around in a store like Home Depot or Lowes looking for nails, pipes and other strange mixes can cause suspicion. As happened to me one time - the police ended up coming to my house. So just be cautious of that and if anybody asks just tell them you are building a lightsaber.

Here is a list of sites that will aid you.

Vonage Telephone VOIP Customer Review

I’m a Vonage telephone service user. I have used Vonage for about two years now. In that period I have saved at least several hundred dollars using Vonage phone service. Vonage is a VOIP which means voice over IP address. This means it uses you pre-existing high speed internet connection to attach to the Vonage servers and get phone calls to your home.

My review will focus in on the benefits of Vonage service as well as some of the drawbacks. You’ll also see my final analyses on this service.

What I have liked about Vonage is the price. You pay under $25 bucks per month for a phone full of services. Services that include unlimited long distance phone service in the whole USA and Canada with no additional charges. Basically you are getting free long distance service nationally. Now if you are the kind of person that makes international phone calls you’ll also see a benefit. The charges to call overseas are significant. My old long distance phone carrier charged $.35 per minute to a certain area I called. With Vonage the charge was only $.04 per minute.

I also have a business line that only costs me $14.99 per month since it only has 600 minutes on the plan. But that’s enough for the few calls I make and receive from my business line per month.

The one fault I find with Vonage is that sometimes calls are choppy. This occurs during periods when your internet connection is slower or interrupted for some reason. This is not due to anything that Vonage is doing but the status of your own internet connection.

My final analyses is that we are mostly using our cell phones to make calls. We hardly use land phone lines anymore. Vonage cuts down on the price of your phone bill every month on a service we are using less and less of. I definitely recommend Vonage.
